Loft Conversion FAQ
Can my loft be converted?
Around 90% of traditional roofs can be
converted into a habitable loft, however certain factors
would affect the usage of the loft space, in order to
determine these a survey would be required.
Is my loft too small to be converted?
To comply with Building Control
Regulations, your loft has to be a minimum of 2.3m or
7'6" at its highest point (i.e. the apex of the roof).
These measurements are taken from the top surface of the
ceiling boards below, to the felt at the very apex of
the roof. As a result we can make the most of even the
smallest lofts with the ingenious use of staircase
positioning and dormer windows.
I have a water tank in my loft, would
that cause a problem?
Using our own plumbers, we can
effortlessly reposition any plumbing to maximise usable
space in the loft.
I have a chimney in my loft, would that
cause a problem?
Chimney stacks usually have to remain in
position dependent upon their position and usage.
However if you do not use gas fire heating, they be
removed.
Will I require planning permission?
Planning permission is only required if
you wish to put a dormer window on the front of your
house and your house is within 26 metres of the road, or
if the house has been substantially extended in the
past.
How long will the Loft Converstion take?
For an average sized home and with good
weather conditions, we would normally complete the
building work in 4-6 weeks, however with all the
decorative and fittings it is usually between 5-8 weeks
for a complete finish.
What sort of disruption and mess should I
expect whilst the Loft Conversion is being done?
We aim to keep disruption to the
householder and neighbours to a minimum. There maybe be
small amounts of noise and dust, but most of the initial
construction takes place from outside of the property.
